Pete Mesa

April 29, 1926 ~ March 10, 2021 (age 94)


Pete Mesa was born in Bakersfield, CA on April 29, 1926 to Felipe and Juanita (Diaz) Mesa.  He peacefully passed away at home on March 10, 2021. 

During World War II, Pete served in the U. S. Army 865th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater and was Honorably Discharged in 1946.  After his return to Bakersfield, he worked as a Truck Driver for various lumber companies for over 30 years and was a member of the Teamsters Union. 

On October 14, 1950, Pete married the love of his life, Pauline Rodriguez. They were blessed with 70 beautiful years of love and marriage.  Pete loved the outdoors and was an avid deer hunter. He enjoyed spending time hunting with his sons, cousins, and dear friends on yearly trips to Colorado. His family has many happy memories of their camping trips together.  He also enjoyed his trips to the casinos, as well as traveling the world with his wife.

Pete is survived by his wife Pauline, four children and their spouses, Maryann Martinez (Robert), Lucy Gallardo (Ronnie), Sal Mesa (Lupe), David Mesa Sr. (Cindy), nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe and Juanita Mesa, brothers: Boni and Robert Mesa and sister Paula Andrade. 

The family would like to express a special thank you to Bubba Rodriguez for all his care and assistance during the final stages of his Uncle Pete’s illness.  Also, sincere gratitude to Dr. Parvez Memon, DaVita Dialysis Center, Hoffmann Hospice, and Hoffmann Palliative Care for their exceptional care and support. They would also like to extend a special thank you to everyone who touched their lives with love and prayers.

Church services will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 9:30 AM for the rosary, which will be followed by mass at 10:00 AM at Saint Francis Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Masks will be required at the church services. In addition, the family requests that graveside burial services remain private. If desired, donations may be made in Pete's memory to Hoffmann Hospice.
